FAERYN TYPES

Faeryn are originally genetically engineered servants of a long ago extinct race of beings. What the original names of the progenitor race is lost to the mists of time, no records exist about them, because the universe they inhabited was destroyed by the Eldritch and replaced with the current one.

The Faeryn refer to the "Eldritch" as the Formorians and believe that those who created them were magical beings known as the Tuatha De Dann. The Faeryn don't remember betraying their creators by locking them out of the pocket dimension to face the Eldritch Harvest.

The Faeryn and their many different augments have inspired fantasy literature and folk tales for hundreds of years. The genetically engineered subtypes of Faeryn were all designed to fulfil certain roles, roles they have long since forgotten.

BANSHEE belong to an Omen Faeryn type and are very often an Unseelie. They have made significant presence in Ireland and Scotland, inspiring much of their folklore in those countries. Male Banshees often mistaken for ghosts and vengeful wraiths due to common misconceptions that Banshee only appears as female. Banshee look like a ghosts in flesh, sporting long hair, which is often unkept and or covering their face. Their eyes are red from crying and their skin is pale, making them look otherworldly. Being an Omen Faeryn, Banshees are reclusive when it comes to human kind, since they prefer to be in their Faeryn form. They are were created to watch over mounds and other Faeryn places, or to lure unsuspecting people in with their haunting voices. Due to this the human population dubbed them a harbingers of death and bad news, because if a Banshee was spotted, it was very likely someone will either die or go missing. While Seelie Banshee are not common, they do exist. These usually appear less ghastly and more like a young woman. Unlike other Seelie Faeryn, the Banshee can barely be considered such. They are simply not malicious and use their crying to warn people of possible death.

DULLAHAN or as they are also called Gan Geann, meaning "Without a head" is another Omen Faeryn who are often part of the Unseelie Court. The story of the Sleepy Hollow was inspired by one of such Faeryn. While they are a sufficient warriors, they were truly designed to be a death dealers, meant to hunt down or capture an individual. A most famous congregation of the Dullahan is known as the wild hunt, which is feared even in the Other World of the Faeryn. The Dullahan are still in possession of their head, often taking it off from their shoulders when shifting from human form into Faeryn form and then carrying it in their free hand or on their belt. The head can still speak and look around, while the stomp of their neck often emits smoke. They are known to be excellent melee fighters as well as utilizing bows and crossbows in their arsenal. As many legends state, Dullahan are more often than not own a mount or some way of transportation, and in some cases are known to team up with Puca Faeryn who would take a form of a dark horse for Dullahan to ride on. The Seelie Dullahan are really not that different from Unseelie ones, often doing dirty work of the Faeryn, so in a way, they are probably the closest to an inbetween court faeryn as it gets, with some even refusing to knowledge themselves as Seelie or Unseelie. Lastly, as all Omens, Dullahan much rather be in their Faeryn form than a human one.

SHAPE is rather malicious by nature and therefore nearly exclusive a part of Unseelie Court. These are an Omen Faeryn been created to kidnap, torture and generally have become a blight to human kind. Due to this Seelie Faeryn believe that the Shape are failed creations, since their purpose is so malicious and hardly serves to help other Faeryn at large. Mean while Unseelie Faeryn believe that these were perfect products made either during time of war or perhaps as a revenge to get back at those who defeated the Faeryn in the past, but which Court is correct on the matter remains to be seen. The Shapes got their names due to their peculiar appearance that lacked many defining features. They are pale, long limbed, bald, blank slate featureless faces that at most have eyeholes and mouth slit on it. More than any other Faeryn, the Shapes despise using human forms, instead preferring even invisibility over it instead. They lead their lives away from humanity and revel in what they are. These creatures inspired many nightmare stories of old and in the future would give raise to several cryptids such as Rake and Slender man.

TROLL is a Faeryn that has rich mythology across the world in one way or the other. Norwegian Troll, Norse Jotun, Japanese Oni, Cyclops, Ogres, Water Scrags, and such all fall into a Troll category. They all range in appearance depending on what subtype they are, such as most common trolls and ogres are traditionally large, sport warts, big bellies, brutish nature and touch skin. While Jotun some argue just adopted to a cold weather and so they either grew or ice like features. Cyclops have one eye, Oni's face is actually hard bone, resembling a mask, Scrags (aka water trolls) are covered in sea weed and have amphibian, etc. Regardless of the demographics, the trolls were made to be warriors, a brute front line that meant to break oppositions spirit and bones. They can be both Seelie and Unseelie, depending on the individual, and despite the legends, majority of the trolls are not giant. There are giant and even colossal trolls but there are legendary old creatures, meaning that they are not playable. Some of the trolls decide to follow the old ways, living in the wild, even pretending to be rocks. While other ones embrace the advancing world to a degree, so it's not uncommon to find one in a form of a large homeless man living under the city bridge, or rough lumberjack in a forest, etc. Yet they often don't aim to get high in status in human world, still keeping some distance. On the flip side however it's rather normal for Trolls to form tribal camps with Goblins and even take charge of such camps.

GOBLIN more often than not lean toward the Unseelie Court, being made to be scouts, assassins, and shock troops. They are numerous in variety, ranging from vicious Redcaps, mischievous Gremlins and Hobgoblins, as well as Aquatic Kol'ksu. All of them have distinct look to them, like redcaps sporting skinny lengthy features along with their signature red hair or a hat. Kol'ksu having webbed fingers and spine fins, greenish and brown skin tones. Gremlins have having larger heads and often scale like features. While hobgoblins are most human looking of them all. No matter the type, all of the goblins have something in common, that being large nose and ears, as well as sharp teeth and claws. The Unseelie goblins are rather malevolent and vicious, even the traditional pranksters like hobgoblins. Mean while the Seelie goblins, while fewer in numbers, don't extend past pranks or stealing from humans. Goblins also have no qualms from joining human society and landing well playing jobs. These goblins often called the suits by their more wild brethren that dwells om wilds and caves, living tribal lives along side with trolls or merfolk.

SATYR were designed to be entertainers, musicians, and over all performers that meant to bring some relaxation to the lives of other hardworking Faeryn. It is unknown if they are by design are party animals or did they somehow adapted it through the ages. The Satyr made big name for themselves in ancient Greece, with their poetic and musical endeavors being elevated to mythical status even in world of man. The Satyr are also known as fauns in some instances, but the two are one and the same species. While the flute satyr is a very common image, in truth they do not have a preference, and which instrument(s) a Satyr plays depends entirely on the individual. They are also very social creatures which extended into human world even early on, which makes Satyr one of those Faeryn that can live perfect double lives. If an average Satyr were asked what Court they belong too, they often laugh it off and try to change the subject, saying things like they don't have a preference or maybe it all depends on their mood. If you ask other Faeryn however, most will agree with Satyr kind by default falls into a Seelie Court.

PUCA is is considered to be a bringer of good or bad fortune in legends, which is not too far off since they are a very proactive Faeryn type, so when Unseelie Puca is around, they are more likely to cause trouble, while Seelie Puca would actually help out. This is due to the fact why they were created to be helpers and scouts. The Puca are notorious shapeshifters that come in great variety, ranging from common Puca/Pooka that are known to take animal forms, with their favorites being that of a regular or humanoid like black rabbits and horses. Then there Barghest, which is a Puca type that prefers taking a form of large black dogs. Even Kelpies are just a aquatic puca variation, taking form of a water horse. While any of the Puca types can be Seelie, the Barghest and the Kelpie ones are more often part of Unseelie Court to no ones surprise really, considering that they are most known for attacking and drowning humans. It is said that Puca make a great companions to the Dullahan, often even forming hunting parites where Puca takes a form of Dullahan's trusty steed or a hound.

HAG is an Omen Faeryn and exclusively female or at least appear as such. They are responsible for legends such as Baba Yaga and are actually in odds with human Witches due to the fact that human inquisition in times of old considered Hags and Witches to be one and the same. With how malicious Hags are, this brought human ire on both of them, which is a cause for lots of contempt harboring on Witch side. The Hag Faeryn have been created to dispose of human offspring as well as disrupt early settlements with their malicious behavior. This behavior consists of luring and kidnapping people of all ages which usually results in these individuals being eaten, so needless to say, most of the Hags belong to Unseelie Court. They often look boney, hunched over, with big noses, covered in warts, a classical old Witch depiction, while in human form they look like appealing young woman, which helps them in their nefarious deeds. This does not mean that all Hags are naturally evil, the fewer in number Seelie Court Hags taken on a role of forest protectors, often forming strong bonds with animals and the Dryad Faeryn. Regardless of which Hag is it, they have been mostly reclusive to a human eye through the history.

GNOME is while of a shorter height than most, actually come in many different kinds, created for different reasons. There are classic Gnones and Dwarves are rather similar, both great at mining the ore and precious gems, which was extremely handy in old days. Knockers on other hand are known to be great craftsmen and tinkerers, and even Leprechaun being a type of Gnone that collects the riches in their special pot, to take it back to the Otherworld. All of these types can be in either Court, however most of them lean towards the Seelie Court. This included a Brownie, a Gnone that dwells in buildings and even human homes, which been since dubbed a home spirit that watches over the family. The Unseelie version of Brownie however is known as Boggart, which meant to constantly haunt the family with misfortune. The Gnome Faeryn also have been able to fit into the human society quite well, even with Brownies and Boggarts, usually renting in the same building as the family they watch over with.

DRYAD are also known as Nymphs, adopting a nature born like look in their Faeryn form. This usually includes tree bark like or brownish green skin, flowers and branches growing on their bodies and even butterflies and other insects congregating on them. They were created to be a protectors of the forests and they take this very seriously. Despite engaging in some conflicts over the territory, the Dryad are often part of the Seelie Court. The male Dryad are actually known as Leshy, which taken on it's own mythos in Slavic folklore. Be it Dryad or Leshy, these Faeryn are very well known to utilize Shapeshift in what is considered unorthodox ways, even by masters of it like Pucas. While it's not uncommon for them to watch over the forest visitors in animal forms, very often there will be something off about the animal, a part that should not be there, like horns on the rabbit and such. Other time, when looking to intimidate or to right, Dryad will take legendary and even monstrous forms, like that of an Ent or a mixture between an animal and a forest fauna.

PIXIE is similar to what a classical fae are depicted like in much of world folklore and media is. While not miniature in size, they are usually smaller than average human, sporting butterfly or insect like wings, which does grant them ability to fly, even if not all too efficient. The Pixie been made to messengers, and ground keepers, congregating in important Faeryn spots. They also adopted a practice of "borrowing" things from others and forgetting of giving them back. Pixie are not exclusive to Seelie Court but most of them are drawn to it. This may be due to a notion that Unseelie Court and most Omen Faeryn really not liking the Pixie kind, however that dislike don't extend past that, therefore they are not trying to exterminate the Pixie kind. This resentment is rooted in the belief that Pixies are too friendly with humans, and became a poster child for a good Faeryn which was done in order to ease the ire of human kind back when it was common belief that Faeryn and other Preternatural things existed. Unseelie Court does not appreciate this because they see it as good as waving a white flag of surrender, which they never fully have. Despite that, some Pixies do find themselves as part of Unseelie Court, those are known as Spriggans, that often embrace their thief nature.

SIREN is while an aquatic creature, does posses legs in human form, so they may step on land as any other Faeryn. Despite that, they were created primarily to scout the ocean and to lure people to their water graves. It is only after the successful ocean conquest by the merfolk, the Sirens taken titles of queens and kings in the ocean. As the title of king might suggest, the Sirens are not exclusively female but ,male sirens are more rare and share many qualities with their female brethren. The Sirens are quite equally spread between Seelie and Unseelie Courts according to views of land Faeryn, however according to Sirens, they are nearly above such things, winning their sea conquest and in no need of same politics that land Faeryn busy themselves with, despite keeping in contact with them. The Sirens look exactly what you do imagine mermaids to look like, various fish tails with human upper bodies blending seamlessly. Surprisingly enough, Sirens have been known to integrate human society quite well, even if they always return to the watery depths after some time.

TRITON is the more common aquatic male Faeryn, with female Tritons being more rare. Whenever there is a sea king, it is usually a Triton. They are large creatures that blend between human and aquatic creature even more than Siren. Coming in all shapes and forms, with tails replacing legs, legs along side tails, tentacles for lower body, so on. These creatures inspired much of ancient legends, a sea man with trident, ruling over the Oceans, While not entirely incorrect, it is far from truth, neither with all aquatic Faeryn combined, they still have not explored all of the Ocean, claiming domain only over select parts. What is true is that Tritons are strong, posses hard skin, akin that of a shark, and pack quite a punch. To no ones surprise, Tritons were made to be the warriors of the deep sea. Just like their cousins, Sirens, Tritons don't concern themselves too much with the Courts.

TUATHAN are considered to be either same type of Faeryn that the legendary Tuatha De Denann were, or in less favorable views their downgrade knock offs, depending on who you ask. Regardless of which, the Tuathans stand tall and proud, ruling over Faeryn in the Otherworld, and even taking much of the managing and leadership in the human world. While here other Faeryn that been born in human world are less eager to bow to them, they all soon learn that at some point they might once moved to the next realm. Tuathans are faire looking, with elegant thin features, tall, slender, dawning beautiful hair. One glance at their Faeryn form leaves no doubt that elves of many stories been based on them, and some suspect that Tuathans had something to do with it, wanting to immortalize themselves even in this world through the writing. Even though they love to engage in their Courtship, they are often not stupid of vain, instead show show smarts and ability to lead, which is why they were created, to be the front people, the generals, the leaders, the politicians. Majority of the Tuathan Faeryn are that of a Seelie Court, recognizing that conquest was lost and wanting to return to Otherworld where they may rightfully rule. Yet there some that chose to be Unseelie, wishing to turn this world into a new home, akin to the Otherworld.
