There are 10 types of Daemon who are attracted to mortal hosts who are consumed by traditional sins. There were originally 10 sins in the catholic cannon, however these were later revised, and some were amalgamated, however nobody saw fit to tell Daemonkind of this amalgamation. Daemons can only enter the world by possessing a person of weak spirit. Mortals who possess strong virtues cannot be possessed; they are too spiritually strong.

Daemon means "Guiding Spirit", the term "Demon" is a bastardization of the word and has come to mean something else. Daemons literally guide their hosts by taking over completely and replacing the mortal personality with their own. Because the host was so lost to the sin the Daemon was attuned to, few people notice any obvious personality change other than they seem more given into their sin then they were prior possession.

Daemons are arranged in "Orders", which champion a sin and venerate a patron. The patrons of course have many, many, names. To save space, we only give their names from Judeo/Christian perspective, although Daemons and their patrons are known by many different names across many different cultures and religions.

Note: The True Form descriptions are suggestions, we do expect some variation in second life.

ORDER SUPERBIA (superb -e-ah)

Sin: Pride

Patron: Lucifer

Order Superbia is first among the Daemons, according to Order Superbia. Order Superbia believe themselves to be the best at well everything they do. Of course, they are outmatched martially by Order Iratis and sexually by Order Cubus. They believe themselves to be the best judges and believe they keep the best company. They will only associate with people who are successful and have no sympathy for those that have fallen on hard times. Their closest allies are those of Order Iratis, Order Cubus and Order Avarita. These Daemons are often the most attractive, most wealthy and most martially skilled so their company is welcome.

Order Superbia has no time for Orders Piger, Gula, Tristita, Mendax or Barbas. It feels only contempt for these orders. Order Invidus is perhaps the most reaffirming order for Order Superbia.

Their human forms are always well presented, they take pride in their appearance, shoes are always polished, hair neatly cut and nails perfectly trimmed. Always smart and professional looking, never too sexy, never too flashy, always timely.

Their True form normally exceeds their mortal height, appearing as giant muscular forms with no claws, horns, tails or wings or other adornments. Hair , skin, eyes will appear to have a purple tint. They will always tower over opponents in True form, unless the opponent is another Daemon Of Pride.

ORDER IRATIS (E-rat-iss)
Sin: Wrath

Patron: Sathanas

Order Iratis is known as the order of vengeance. Daemons of this order can be quick to anger and slow to forgive. It can be patient and loves nothing more than befriending an enemy for the purposes of lulling them into a false sense of security, so that their revenge can be delivered when their enemy is least expecting it. Daemons of Order Iratis will enjoy plotting their revenge as much as carrying it out, while they are indeed skilled martial combatants, they are also methodical, they want their targets to suffer, and they want their targets to know why they are suffering. Despite their capacity to kill, they prefer instead to keep their enemies alive so they can continue to torment them. Daemons of this Order have no strong opinion on the other orders, as with revenge, they only care about an individual personality rather than hate or respect for a group as a whole. When Daemons of Wrath cross one another they tend to favour a prolonged conflict, using other characters as pawns in their private war. Some of these wars have been going on for thousands of years.

Their human forms are always dressed appropriately for what ever task is at hand. They view everything as a utility and will do their best to blend in.

Their true form is generally athletic and adorned with horns, spikes, fangs and skin and eyes of a reddish hue. The air shimmers around them as they appear to be burning internally, some even have fire in their eyes.

ORDER PIGER (Pie-gee-ah)

Sin: Sloth

Patron: Abaddon

Order Piger are among the most rare of all orders in the mortal world, mostly because the Daemons of the order  find it too much effort to even bother leaving the spirit realm in the first place. They generally abhor confrontation either in the physical or the verbal sense, choosing instead the path of least resistance. They favour hosts who are couch potatoes or even better comatose. They really have no strong opinion on the other orders. They simply don't care about anything at all. While they may sound like the least dangerous of all the sins, this is not true, their contagious apathy allows injustice and corruption into the world unchallenged. "What's the point of doing anything, just relax, let it happen, don't fight it, let someone else take care of it".

Their mortal appearance is unkempt and they rarely change clothes at all. They can sleep anywhere and if they do have an abode it is usually dirty and messy. Their mortal hosts soon lose weight as even eating can become too much of a chore. Always late and undependable to a fault, Order Piger has little to no allies other than order Tristita.

Their true form is almost entirely featureless, a hunched figure with flesh hanging from the bones like an ill fitting suit. They seem to drift slowly rather than move , although they are not floating, they sigh and yawn during conflict, their enemies feel their own strength and resolve drained from them. It is almost futile to fight them, they never seem to take any damage and walking away seems the best course of action, as they generally won't pursue. Those who continue to fight Daemons of sloth are eventually going to exhaust themselves to the point of sleep, if they do fall asleep, the Daemon can then begin to reprogram the character by destroying their ideals and hopes in the dream realm, relieving characters of their burdens. Systematically removing a characters reasons to fight for or care for anything.  It is almost impossible to wake characters from this dream state.

ORDER GULA (Goo La)

Sin: Gluttony

Patron: Belphegor

Daemons of the Order Gula take offense to the sin of Gluttony being simplified as mere over eating. The sin of gluttony is excess, a never ending quest to seek perfection. Many of them take mortal guises as cooks or restaurant critics. Their definition of Gluttony is as refined as their pallet. Gluttony is not simply over eating, it is eating for pleasure, it is withholding food from the needy, it is elevating food beyond mere sustenance into a celebration. The darker side of this Order is that it routinely practices cannibalism, but as with most things, those on the menu must always be a rare and exquisite specimen. Those of order Gula have no qualms in eating an endangered species, the more rare and unique the food type the more likely it is to tickle the taste buds of the Gula.

In human form, most Gula are overweight or even obese. They typically are messy eaters, preferring food they can eat with their hands, they eat quickly and often have sticky fingers.

In their True Form they are squat and bloated creatures that defy physics as such creatures should not be able to physically move under their own weight. They have maws filled with vicious serrated teeth much like those of a shark, and huge shovel sized hands and are more than capable of devouring another creature in one gulp.

ORDER AVARITA (A-var-rita)

Sin: Greed

Patron: Mammon

Order Avarita does nothing for free, and you probably can't afford them anyway. They are repulsed by acts of charity and even get annoyed at people giving away free samples. They like the magpie are attracted to shiny things. You won't see them ever in a poor neighbourhood.  The idea of not being surrounded by luxurious items saddens them, as with Gula they have rare and exquisite tastes. However the things that excite them the most are one of a kind items. They seek trophy wives and husbands and slaves to serve them and they expect these slaves, husbands and wives to pay them for the pleasure with expensive or exotic gifts.

In their mortal form they always dress to impress, the latest and most expensive fashions adorned with the most expensive jewellery and perfumes and colognes. Like those of Order Superbia they are always clean, unless of course they are being pampered in an expensive spa with a mud treatment. Their homes are always luxurious and immaculately clean, though of course everything is displayed. Order Avarita have no safes or items locked away from sight, they believe that if you've got it, you should flaunt it.

In their true form, Avarita are golden skinned and adorned with precious gems and jewels, with fine ivory horns and talons. They shine so brightly that they can blind onlookers. They have an aura that pulls all valuable items towards them, items that would be cumbersome such as a chandelier or rare art work are shrunk and become embedded in the skin of the Daemon, while items of jewellery or money simply stick to the Daemons skin, proudly displayed for all to see.

ORDER CUBUS  (Ka-buss)

Sin: Lust

Patron: Asmodeus.

The order Cubus is three separate orders. Order Incubus, Order Succubus and Order Vertcubus. All celebrate the sin of lust, and all venerate Asmodeus. The distinction, not surprisingly, is all a matter of the Cubus role in fornication. Those that are "Tops, Dom/mes, Sadists" are called Incubus, Those that are "Bottoms, Subs, Masochists " are called Succubus, those that can switch between those roles are called Vertcubus.

Incubus means to lay above, Succubus means to lay below, Vertcubus means to lay both ways.

It has nothing to do with biological sex or gender.

The Order Cubus is dedicated to sexual pleasure or hedonism, they also include other mortal pleasures such as drugs and alcohol to their remit. Absolute pleasure is their end goal. However pleasure and pain are to the order much the same thing, they revel in sadism as well as masochism and always push limits. There are many sexual acts that are considered taboo or forbidden or even illegal among mortals that these creatures indulge in, animals aren't safe either. Consent isn't a word that they believe in, Sexual torture, strange and painful insertions are par for the course. Order Cubus does not believe in monogamy , consent or limits.

In their mortal form, Cubus dress in the most alluring way possible that will not get them arrested, although some of them do enjoy their time in handcuffs and sometimes might dress extra provocative just to in order to seduce the arresting officer.

In their Demon form the Cubus may appear androgynous or fully masculine or fully feminine, the Vertcubus are most likely to have both sets of genitals  proudly displayed, the male organ will always be oversized and erect and sometimes it is spiked or may not even be a human penis, but something more akin to a cat, dog, horse, bull penis. Most have writhing tentacles that end in either orifices or male glans.  Female cubus will have large erect nipples upon ample breasts and will be generally curvy body shape. All Cubus strut or sway their hips hypnotically, and exude pheromones that arouse all those near by. If attacked they moan and groan with pleasure, and can even scream in orgasmic pleasure upon receiving  hideous wounds. Onlookers usually will see what they most sexually desire, regardless of how the true form really looks.

As one might expect with Order Cubus, becoming a parent is a risk they all face, or Cubus are fertile and able to mate with humans.  Children who result from a pairing with A Cubus and a human are called Cambion. These children can become warlocks upon reaching adulthood, and other than magical aptitude display no other supernatural abilities. Cubus don't make good parents and abandon their young either at the point of conception, or the point of birth.

ORDER INVIDUS   (In-vid-e-us)

Sin: Envy

Patron: Beelzebub

The Order Of Invidus hates everyone, it is jealous by nature, it will either destroy what others have or it will take it for themselves. The Daemons of this order are envious over many things, successful businesses or individuals, physical appearances, belongings. In most cases the Daemon will work to acquire something belonging to another, be that a persons spouse, or their physical appearances, it is not unknown for Daemons of this order to skin people alive to wear their pretty flesh over their own. In cases where the subject of envy is not able to be taken the Daemon will attempt to destroy it, they will relentlessly pursue the destruction of the subject of their attention. Petty theft to grand theft are common for Invidus Daemons. Unlike Daemons of the Avarita order, Invidus Daemons don't hold onto the possessions they have taken. Once they have taken or destroyed the subject of their attention they are quite content until something else to be jealous of comes along, they usually throw away conquests. Having successfully stolen someone's spouse and potentially destroyed that relationship in the process they will simply abandon the spouse as their goal is complete.

The human form of Invidus are always characterized as having green eyes, they don't stand out otherwise.

The True Form of Invidus has many arms each ending in impossibly long grasping fingers that end in vicious barbed hooks. It constantly inhales sucking all non rooted objects towards itself, weapons and objects end up being taken, each strike against an Envy Daemon results in the Envy Daemon taking the power or strength used against it and turning it upon its foes. Weapons used against the Daemon will end up automatically in the Daemons possession upon a successful strike. The powers, weapons and abilities used against the Daemon eventually return to their rightful owner, but only when the Daemon has become bored with them.

ORDER MENDAX (Men-Dax)

Sin: Deceit

Patron: Belial

All anyone knows about order Mendax is probably a lie, Even Mendax Daemons don't know the truth of their order. Mendax specialize in deceit. They can weave elaborate tales and create powerful illusions, the Hollywood scene has the highest concentration of Mendax Daemons and are busy creating narratives to put into motion pictures and television. Many of the other sins are grateful  to Mendax for this. Pride is required, Greed is good, Sex is owed, Vengence is better than justice are just some of the typical hollywood narratives, The sins of sloth, Envy, gluttony, fear and despair do get so much of a high billing, but with the emerging horror movie genre, people are starting to appreciate a good scare, even if the sin isn't venerated.

Mendax practice deceit in every action they perform and every word they say, they always say exactly what is required to get people to listen to them, they are repeat populist rhetoric even though they don't believe it  themselves. It can be said that Mendax don't believe anything other than what is plainly true, they won't argue the sky is plaid or that water is dry for instance, they have to maintain some sense of believability, they are skilled liars, not maniacs. A Mendax knows that one must hide lies among truths. Typically they will possess those who make a living from lying. Actors, Lawyers, politicians, Journalists. Their human form is "As expected", a Mendax always appears precisely as you would expect, always fitting the role they are playing. They are Chameleon like and are able to mimic the physical appearance and mannerisms of anyone they encounter. They are masters of illusion able to create entire scenes full of convincing characters.

Aside from Sloth, these daemons are the least seen by other daemons, their power of deception so strong it can even cause Daemons to not recognize them. Mendax are the least trusted of the orders, and there is a good reason for this. Mendax are known to manipulate the truth or bluff their opponents who know what they are. Woe be to the one who has decided to treat every word out of a Mendax's mouth as a lie, a Mendax can pick up on this and is very apt at using reverse psychology in order to get someone to believe the opposite. Mendax like all orders except cubas are infertile, but this does not mean they cannot -fake- a pregnancy, childbirth, even a child. Their power of illusion is so strong, its impossible to tell If the family living next door is real, or an elaborate illusion set as deep cover by the Mendax.

Mendax Daemons, appear to thrive on Chaos in its purest form. Turning the world on its head is the ultimate goal of Order Mendax, Usurping the truth of order and replacing it with pure chaos. Getting others to disbelieve everything they stand for, convincing others of the folly of their chosen hopes, dreams, drives. While other orders wish people to emotionally give up, Mendax daemons wish to make people come to rational decisions, motivated by their own reasoning. To trick someone into becoming something other than they are, requires far more skill than depressing or terrorising  subjects into subservience. Many a Nephilim were formerly "Trickster" gods or gods of Chaos and Disorder  before they became spirits, Loki, Eris/Discordia and Anansi are but a few.

Their true, true form  has a mirror like skin, making them almost blend into the surroundings, their voice is as many and whispers in the ears of those nearby, regardless of actual distance. In fact they can whisper to multiple people, telling each individual an individual lie simultaneously. Their true form consistently changes shape and size and features appear and disappear randomly. A Mendax will rarely display their True, True form , as they prefer to ape the true form of other orders should they need to communicate Daemon to Daemon, they can mimic such appearances easily, but never abilities. Order Mendax see everything as move on a chess board, each lie a carefully chosen move to push others in the direction of chaos.   â€‹

ORDER IGNAVUS (Ig-na- thus)

Sin: Fear

Patron: Barbas

For their fearsome visage, Ignavus are often mistaken for Angels Of Death or Grim Reapers. It is a reputation they rather enjoy, for most creatures are afraid of death. Though a Daemon of Fear does not want to kill anyone, a dead subject is unable to fear anything. It is rumoured that an Ignavus wrote  Niccolo Machiavelli's, "The Prince", a play book for those who wish to feared. For as the book says "It is better to be feared than to be loved". However there is some contention among other Daemons as the same book also argues for extreme wrath and deception. Ignavus answers this claim by saying that wrath and lies are simply tools to generate fear. A Daemon of fear uses every tool at its disposal to induce fear in others. It will be unpredictable and knows when to stay its hand and when to make a brutal display of power. It's tortures are designed to put others in fear of such tortures ever happening to them. They are masters at psychological warfare, while Daemons of deceit want people to believe them, Daemons of fear want people to simply agree with them out of fear. Daemons of fear don't derive pleasure from torture, they derive pleasure from the fear such tortures elicit in others. They like to make examples. It is theorized Jack The Ripper was an Ignavus, the victims were simply tools for creating terror in Victorian London, if this is the case, the Daemon certainly  gained no pleasure from the gruesome acts, but enjoyed the atmosphere of fear it created.

In their human form , Ignavus usually look physically imposing but not stupidly so, they usually have a thousand yard stare, their voices are hard and they display little to no outward emotion. They know how to structure a sentence in such a way that people feel ill at ease, without being directly threatened.

In their true form Ignavus appear as the very embodiment of death itself. Living plants and animals wither it its very presence, the threat of death is always clearly present. A rictus grin and burning eyes of balefire adorn its skeletal visage, great leathery or feathered wings flap and make a sound of heart beat upon the air. Fearsome unholy screeches like the souls of the damned issue from their mouths.

ORDER TRISTITA (Trist-eater)

Sin: Despair

Patron: Oizys

Order Tristita are often confused with order Ignavus but there is a difference between fear and despair. Fear is being scared to act, Despair is knowing that nothing you or anyone else can do can make a difference to anything. Daemon's of despair strive to make characters feel hopeless, to feel insignificant, to give up on their dreams. It wants people to know they are ultimately doomed and that nothing they do will have any lasting effect. Despair Daemons structure arguments and use logic that reveal the pointlessness of life, they revel in driving people to suicide or into deep depression. Despair Daemons rarely use physical powers on other characters, rather they will convince them of the futility of trying to battle them, even the masters of wrath will second guess themselves, as Despair Daemons can't be physically bested. They rarely strike a foe, they don't need to, they just take the best shot another gives them and they laugh, pointing out how pathetic the struggle is. Generally Despair Daemons will encourage a character to do their best, then at the precise moment needed, they will sabotage the effort discreetly, eventually their victim will come to realize they are doomed to failure no matter what they do. Artists and Performers will find their art or performance ridiculed in the press, those that campaign politically will find their campaign beset by controversy and negative attention. Eventually the subject will feel the entire world is against them and they will never succeed. Despair Daemons will often flirt with others only to reject utterly the advances and tell the other that no one would ever be romantically interested  in them. Humiliation and failure is the Despair Daemons main tool to crush utterly the ambitions of others. Once a character is lost to despair, the Daemon will be ready to give them the final push, they might hand them a gun with a single bullet and tell them it is their only hope. They are cold, cruel and calculating.

Despair Daemons appear obtainable and desirable  but not in an overt way such as Cuba's . This is a tool to crush a persons romantic interests not to actually sleep with them.

In their true form Despair Daemons appear to tower over their foes, always looking down with a sneering look of disdain. They have wings of shadows that blot out and obscure their allies from one another, these shadows whisper in the voices of those known to the Daemons For of their disappointment, disdain or hatred for them. The Daemons love to taunt opponents into hitting them, only to instantly teleport out of harms way before the moment of impact, laughing at the futile efforts. Leaving opponents to eventually realize they can do nothing to defeat them, only surrender to the Daemons point of view.
